Ian Clark and Marko Torenius will have new positions for the Vancouver Canucks during the 2024-25 season.
The Vancouver Canucks have made some changes to their goaltending department ahead of the 2024-25 regular season. Current Head Goalie Coach and Director of Goaltending, Ian Clark, will move into a scouting and development role. Therefore, Development Coach and Goaltending Coach for the Abbotsford Canucks, Marko Torenius, will become the team's new Goaltending Coach in Vancouver.
In the press release, GM Patrik Allvin wrote, "Unfortunately, Ian can no longer go on the ice regularly to do the things that have made him successful. But this new role will fit with his expertise and having Clarkie going out to find and develop talent will be a big asset to the organization." The press release did not mention who the Goaltending Coach in Abbotsford will be, but that announcement should come before the start of the regular season.
Clark has been with the organization since the 2019-20 season. During that time, he helped develop Thatcher Demko and Artūrs Šilovs. This is Clark's second time with the organization, as he was also the Goaltending Coach from 2002-10.
As for Torenius, he is entering his third season with the organization. He has spent the last two seasons in Abbotsford, helping develop Šilovs as well as Nikita Tolopilo. Before joining the Canucks, Torenius spent time in the KHL with SKA St. Petersburg, working with goaltenders such as Igor Shestyorkin, Konstantin Volkov, Yaroslav Askarov and Pyotr Kochetkov.
