After a five-game NHL stint, Arshdeep Bains is on his way back to Abbotsford. The Vancouver Canucks announced the move on Friday ahead of their three-game road trip through California and Las Vegas. Bains was initially called up on Feb. 16, playing five games with Vancouver before being reassigned to the AHL.
Overall, Bains played well in his first taste of NHL action. While he didn't record any points, he showed just how strong of a playmaker he is and wasn't afraid to throw hits, recording five over the past five games. From playing in the top six to getting power play time, it was clear that Rick Tocchet trusted him and that he has a bright future with this organization.
The move may be related to the rumoured Phil Kessel signing, as the Canucks need the roster spot available if they want to add the future Hall of Famer to their lineup. Kessel must be signed by the Mar. 8 trade deadline if Vancouver wants him to be playoff eligable. Bains was the only waiver-exempt player on the Canucks roster, making him the most likely candidate to be assigned to the AHL.
