The Canucks could be without Jake DeBrusk for their 2026-27 season-opening matchup against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.
Two pieces of news surround the Vancouver Canucks ahead of the NHL's 2026-27 opening-night roster submission deadline later today: one being injury related, and one being waiver-wire related.
First is the fact that forward Jake DeBrusk looks to be dealing with a lower-body injury, which the team says they are currently evaluating. DeBrusk was not present at today's practice and is questionable for tomorrow's season-opener against the Edmonton Oilers.
As a result of DeBrusk's absence at practice today, Vancouver moved Arshdeep Bains up into DeBrusk's spot on the team's top-line. Max Sasson replaced DeBrusk on Vancouver's first-unit power play. The rest of Vancouver's lines stayed the same, though this could change depending on whether the forward is cleared to play on Tuesday.
The second piece of news is in regards to the waiver wire. After being placed on waivers yesterday for the purpose of AHL assignment, goaltender Nikita Tolopilo has cleared and is now expected to join the Abbotsford Canucks. Newly-acquired goaltender Leevi Meriläinen joined Vancouver at practice today, as did PTO goaltender Chris Driedger.
Vancouver's next big announcement will likely be their opening-night roster for the 2026-27 regular season, which is expected to come out later today.
