The 26-year-old will need to clear waivers to be assigned to Abbotsford.
The Vancouver Canucks have placed goaltender Nikita Tolopilo on waivers. If cleared, the 26-year-old will be eligible to be assigned to the AHL. Tolopilo's placement on waivers is not a surprise, as Vancouver claimed goaltender Leevi Meriläinen earlier this week.
Tolopilo struggled during his two pre-season games. He finished with a 3.62 goals against average and a save percentage of .864. Last season, Tolopilo played 21 games in the NHL, where he posted a 6-11-2 record with a save percentage of .881.
If cleared, Tolopilo will be the Abbotsford Canucks starter this year. Over his AHL career, he has posted a 48-35-6 record in 90 regular-season games. Tolopilo joins Mitchell Weeks, Ty Young and Aku Koskenvuo, who are all currently on Abbotsford's roster.
