NHL teams can not make any trades until after the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The Vancouver Canucks have run out of time to make a trade ahead of the NHL roster freeze. Teams are now unable to trade players until February 22, 2026, at 8:59 pm PT. The roster freeze covers the length of the 2026 Winter Olympics, which wraps up on February 22, 2026.

Since the Canucks officially announced a rebuild in January, the organization has made one trade. The deal saw Kiefer Sherwood moved to the San Jose Sharks for two second-round picks and defenseman Cole Clayton. Sherwood was arguably Vancouver's biggest trade piece as he was an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin are expected to be busy once the trade freeze is lifted. The Canucks have three unrestricted free agents in Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger and David Kämpf, who are projected to be moved before the March 6 trade deadline. As for other players whose names have come up in trade rumours, they include Elias Pettersson, Conor Garland and Brock Boeser.
