Riley Patterson has eight points in nine games this season for the Abbotsford Canucks.
The Abbotsford Canucks are on a heater down in the AHL. After starting the campaign 0-2-0-1, Abbotsford have pulled off six straight victories and currently sit at the top of their division. Overall, the start to the season has been impressive and needed as the AHL Canucks look to get back into the playoffs.
Abbotsford has become a win-by-committee team. 10 players have at least five points this year, while 15 have found the back of the net. One of the young guys off to an impressive start is forward Riley Patterson, who is already up to eight points in nine games this season.
Patterson is currently in his first full AHL season. He spent the last few years in the OHL and was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks 125th overall in 2024. While this is Patterson's rookie campaign, he did play four games with the AHL Canucks last year, where he scored his first career goal while also recording an assist.
This season, Patterson is showing he did not need an extra year of junior hockey. He has points in six of the nine games he has played and already has two multi-point games. Of the 60 U20 players who have played in the AHL this year, Patterson ranks tied for second in goals and is tied for the lead in assists and points.
While it is early, Patterson's play so far this season is an encouraging sign. The 20-year-old forward appears to be adjusting to the pro game and is finding ways to contribute every night. Ultimately, if Patterson keeps putting up points and rounding out his game, he could push for an NHL roster spot in the next few years.
