Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes was named as a finalist for the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman.
Hughes led all NHL defensemen in scoring with 75 assists and 92 points. This was his first season as captain of the team.
Colorado Avalanche d-man Cale Makar and Nashville Predators d-man Roman Josi are the other nominees. Both players have won the Norris trophy.
Hughes also led defensemen in powerplay assists with 33 and was second in powerplay points with 38. He became the eighth-fastest blueliner in NHL history to score 300 career points, doing so in his 331st game. Hughes also became the third defenseman in League history to register at least 200 assists over a three-season span. Paul Coffey and Bobby Orr are the only other defensemen to achieve that.
