With the Abbotsford Canucks season now complete, the Vancouver Canucks have announced that they have recalled 13 players from the AHL. Calling up players after an AHL team is eliminated is not of the ordinary, but recalling 13 players is not often seen. While most may not dress during the playoffs, it is an excellent opportunity for some of the younger players in the organization to be around for this playoff run and hopefully gain some valuable experience over the next few weeks.

In total, the Canucks recalled seven forward, five defencemen and one goaltender. Included in the forward group is Jonathan Lekkerimäki, who, after not making Team Sweden, was assigned to Abbotsford before Game 3 of their second-round series versus the Ontario Reign. Unfortunately, Lekkerimäki didn't make it back to Abbotsford in time and missed what ended up being the team's final game of the season. Vasily Podkolzin was also recalled and may have a shot of getting into the lineup this year based on his play with Vancouver before being sent down to the AHL.

On the defensive side, one name that sticks out is Elias Pettersson. D-Petey, as he is known, played nine games in the AHL this year after completing his season with Västerås IK in the HockeyAllsvenskan. It is clear Vancouver has big plans for Pettersson moving forward, as the 6'4 defender is expected to start next season in the AHL.

The Canucks continue their second-round series with the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night. Despite being down 4-1 late in the second, Vancouver mounted a furious comeback in Game 1, taking the opener 5-4. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:10 pm PT with the Canucks looking to head back to Edmonton up 2-0 in the series.
