The Canucks have signed veteran goaltender Chris Driedger to a Professional Try-Out agreement and hired Sean Finn as an amateur scout.
The Vancouver Canucks are adding a goaltender and scout to their ranks from the KHL.
Former NHL veteran goaltender Chris Driedger and new Amateur Scout Sean Finn have been added to the Canucks organization, with Driedger signing a Professional Try-Out agreement and Finn being hired as part of the team's staff.
Driedger will look to play his way into a full-time role with the Canucks organization after spending the 2025-26 season with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL, recording an 8-9-2 record and .897 SV% during this span of time. Prior to his time in the KHL, Driedger spent time with the Seattle Kraken, Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators, and more NHL and AHL-affiliates. Most notably, he put together a .927 SV% and 2.07 GAA in 23 games with the Panthers in 2020-21.
As his current deal is a PTO, Driedger will still have to play his way into earning a full-time contract with the Canucks come the start of the 2026-27 training camp and pre-season.
Driedger's PTO signing comes only a day after Canucks GM Ryan Johnson spoke to Patrick Johnston of The Province about a rehab timeline, or lack thereof, for goaltender Thatcher Demko.
Reports of Finn's hiring broke on Wednesday, with Thomas Drance of The Athletic and Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK TV sharing the news via X. The 46-year-old has primarily worked in the KHL, serving as Director of Player Development (2015-16) and Director of Hockey Operations (2018-19 to 2019-20) for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, as well as a Development Coach for Kunlun Red Star in 2022-23.
