Another ex-Vancouver Canucks player is on the move, as Luke Schenn will be taking his talents to the Winnipeg Jets. Schenn was just traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night from the Nashville Predators. As a steady depth defender, he’ll look to help the Jets solidify their place atop the Western Conference heading into the postseason.

Canucks Trade Carson Soucy To The Rangers For A Third-Round Pick

Schenn fetched the Penguins a second-round pick in 2026 and a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft. Only yesterday, the Canucks traded Carson Soucy to the New York Rangers for a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. The market for defensemen has been interesting, to say the least, as only last night, Oliver Kylington was traded for future considerations, while Jake Walman nabbed a first-round pick and a player. Unless Vancouver tries to move pending free-agent Derek Forbort before the deadline, it’s not likely that the team moves any other defenders.

Schenn will be joining a Jets blueline featuring players like Josh Morrisey, Neal Pionk, and Dylan DeMelo. While it’s unlikely that he’ll see the same amount of minutes with the Jets as he did with Vancouver, he’ll fill a depth role and will give Winnipeg some added security if injuries come knocking.

Winnipeg also acquired Brandon Tanev, brother of former Canuck Chris Tanev, for a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft. With a variety of Central-division teams buying up prime trade deadline targets, it's only a matter of time before the Canucks make their moves.
