A familiar name scored a goal for Canada on Saturday afternoon.
Valter Sedin, the son of long-time former Vancouver Canucks forward and now co-President of Hockey Operations Henrik Sedin, scored in Canada’s Saturday afternoon matchup against Jamaica at the 2026 U-20 Concacaf Championship group stage. This was the 19-year-old’s first time scoring for Canada at the U-20 level, with the goal making a big difference in his team’s fate throughout the rest of the tournament.
In May, Sedin was named to Canada’s U-20 roster at the Maurice Revello Tournament. He was later added to Canada’s U-20 Concacaf squad as an injury replacement. Earlier in his soccer career, in August of 2025, Sedin was named to Canada’s U-18 roster.
Sedin spent five years with Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s Pre-Academy, developing with the club from August of 2020 to 2025. He then joined Hammarby IF’s U-19 team.
Canada took a 2–2 draw against Jamaica in the Saturday game, with the result placing the U-20 squad at the top of their group and helping them advance to the quarterfinals.
After Saturday’s results, Canada will play Jamaica once again for a chance at advancing to the semi-finals. The match is scheduled for August 5 at 3:30 pm PT.
