
Akito Hirose suffered a concussion in his only game of the 2024 pre-season.

-GM Patrik Allvin announced on Saturday that the Vancouver Canucks have assigned defenceman Akito Hirose to the Abbotsford Canucks. Hirose played one game during the 2024 pre-season but suffered a concussion, keeping him out of the lineup. The 25-year-old is projected to play a key role for Abbotsford this season and could be a call-up option later in the season.

Last season, Hirose played 33 games in the AHL and an additional six during the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs. He has also played ten regular-season games in the NHL, three of which came last season. Hirose was signed by the Canucks in March of 2023 after a standout NCAA career at Minnesota State University (Mankato).
The Abbotsford Canucks kick off their 2024-25 season on October 11 versus the Calgary Wranglers. As for their home opener, it is scheduled for October 25 versus the San Deigo Gulls. Last season, the Canucks went 40-25-5-2 before being eliminated in the second round by the Ontario Reign.
