Vancouver only had five picks in the 2020 NHL Draft. Their highest selection was in the third round, as they traded their first-round selection for J.T. Miller the season before and moved their second-round pick to the L.A. Kings for Tyler Toffoli. With their remaining selections they picked Joni Jurmo, Jackson Kunz, Jacob Truscott, Dmitry Zlodeyev, and Viktor Persson — here’s what these five have been up to since being drafted.

Jurmo, a left-shot defender, was the Canucks’ first selection of the 2020 Draft, going 82nd overall in the third round. The now-23-year-old didn’t end up playing any games for Vancouver or Abbotsford, as he was traded to the Calgary Flames as part of the Elias Lindholm deal back in 2024. Prior to being dealt, Jurmo spent his time in Liiga, as well as with Team Finland at the 2022 World Juniors. He has yet to play a game for the Flames and has split time between the Calgary Wranglers of the AHL and the Rapid City Rush of the ECHL.
Vancouver’s second pick of the 2020 Draft was Kunz, who they picked 113th overall in the fourth round. Kunz, a 6’3 center, played with Shattuck St. Mary’s in his draft season, putting up 44 points in 33 games played. After a year with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL, he played for the University of North Dakota in the NCAA, with 2024–25 being his final season. He was named one of the team’s assistant captains at the start of the season and later signed a one-year contract with Abbotsford at the end of his fourth NCAA season. With his contract starting in 2025–26, next season will be a big one for Kunz as he prepares to turn pro.
The Canucks selected Truscott in the fifth round, 144th overall, in the 2020 Draft. After his draft year, he spent five seasons with the University of Michigan. He was named an assistant captain in 2022–23 and captain in 2023–24. Truscott was also named to Team USA’s World Juniors roster in 2022. Ultimately, Vancouver relinquished Truscott’s signing rights in August 2024, making him a free agent. He signed a two-year deal with the Grand Rapids Griffins — the Detroit Red Wings’ AHL affiliate — in April.
Zlodeyev was the Canucks’ sixth-round pick in the 2020 Draft, being selected 175th overall. Throughout his tenure as a Canucks prospect, he hopped around various Russian hockey leagues, ending up in the Supreme Hockey League (VHL), Junior Hockey League (MHL), and KHL before playing his first game with a North American League. He spent 21 games with Abbotsford in 2023–24, but returned to the KHL the season after. Next season, he’ll be resuming his play with Avangard Omsk.
The seventh and final pick of the 2020 Draft for the Canucks was Persson, a 6’2 right-shot defender. He spent the better half of six seasons with Brynäs IF’s various junior clubs before joining the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL in 2021–22. His time with the Blazers was short-lived, as he wound up with Liiga’s Pelicans the season after. Vancouver relinquished their rights to sign Persson at the end of his second season with the Pelicans. In 2024–25, he played for both Brynäs IF and JYP of Liiga, and will be spending time with MoDo Hockey of HockeyAllsvenskan — the club that Canucks legend Markus Näslund was once the general manager of.
