Former Vancouver Canucks forward Cody Hodgson has signed a professional tryout contract in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals. This comes less than a week after Elliotte Friedman reported that the former tenth-overall pick from 2008 was attempting to restart his hockey career. Hodgson was forced to retire in 2016 after being diagnosed with malignant hyperthermia but has now been given a clean bill of health and is ready to finish his pro career on his terms.

Hogdson returns to Milwaukee where he finished up his career eight years ago. He played 14 games with the Admirals in 2015-16, recording four goals and 11 points. His final pro game came on Mar. 1, 2016, in a 2-0 loss to the Lake Erie Monsters.

It is currently unclear when Hodgson will debut with Milwaukee or even what role he will play with the team. The Admirals are currently first in the Central Division and have won nine of their past ten games. While he does have a chance to get into the lineup either Friday or Saturday, a more likely target is Jan. 24, when Milwaukee faces off against the Belleville Senators.

During his NHL career, Hodgson played for the Buffalo Sabres, Nashville Predators and Canucks. In 71 games with Vancouver, he would record 17 goals and 35 points while also playing in 12 games during their 2011 Stanley Cup Final run. By the end of his NHL career, he would play 328 games, scoring 64 goals and recording 142 points, ranking 32nd among players taken in the 2008 Draft.
