Carson Soucy is set to return to the Vancouver Canucks lineup for their game against the L.A. Kings. The defender has missed the last 17 games with a hand injury that was caused by blocking a shot versus the Toronto Maple Leafs on Jan. 20. Soucy has struggled to stay healthy this season and has played only 21 games after also being sidelined earlier this season with a lower-body injury.

It is safe to say that Soucy has had a significant impact on the Canucks this season. During his 21 games, Vancouver has a 16-3-2 while keeping the opposition to two or fewer goals in 12 contests. Averaging 17:25 of ice time, he also plays a significant role on the penalty kill and is among the team leaders in blocks per 60 this season.

Soucy's return to the lineup could not have come at a better time. Not only is the team trying to find consistency heading into the playoffs, but they are missing a key piece on their blue line with Tyler Myers sidelined week-to-week with an injury. Now that Soucy is back, it should allow Rick Tocchet to balance out his defender's minutes and reduce the workload of Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek.

Overall, Soucy plays an essential role on this team. He doesn't make egregious mistakes and is a player that Tocchet trusts in a matchup role and late in games when Vancouver is nursing a lead. With the Canucks battling for playoff positioning, his return to the lineup should give the team a boost as they look to capture their first Pacific Division title in franchise history.
