
Plenty of former Vancouver Canucks have carved out successful careers around the world after leaving the organization. Whether playing for some of the best teams in Europe or excelling in non-traditional hockey markets, these one-time Canucks continue to apply their trade outside of North America. Today, we look at forward Darren Archibald, who spent the 2024-25 season with Grizzlys Wolfsburg in DEL.
Archibald joined the Canucks organization in 2010 after a successful OHL career. The undrafted free agent played for both the Barrie Colts and Niagara IceDogs, recording 174 points in 186 games. After the 2010-2011 season, Archibald made the jump to the pro level, playing in both the AHL and ECHL during his rookie season.
After two seasons in the minor leagues, Archibald made his NHL debut on October 25, 2013. He recorded his first career assists on November 2, 2013 and his first goal on March 8, 2014. During his NHL career, Archibald played 52 games with Vancouver, recording six goals and 18 points.

Following the 2019-20 season, which was spent in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies and the Belleville Senators, Archibald made his way over to Europe. He joined Austria's Vienna Capitals of the ICEHL for the 2020-21 season, where he recorded 16 points in 15 games. Once the season was complete, Archibald moved to Germany, where he joined Grizzlys Wolfsburg of the DEL.
Archibald has spent the last four seasons with Grizzlys Wolfsburg. He has played 196 games, scoring 70 goals and recording 130. As for next season, Archibald will be joining Fehérvár AV19 from Hungary, who play in the ICEHL.
