Welcome to The Hockey News - Vancouver Canucks site’s player preview series for the 2025–26 season. In these articles, we’ll preview the players who are expected to play for the Canucks in the 2025–26 season. This edition will focus on winger Evander Kane, who will be looking to impress during his first year with Vancouver.

    Kane's 2024-25 Season

Kane had a complicated 2024-25 season. The 34-year-old missed the entire regular season as he was dealing with a long list of injuries. Luckily for Kane, the season wasn't a complete wash as he was medically cleared to rejoin the Edmonton Oilers for the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

During the post-season, Kane suited up for 21 games, scoring six goals and recording 12 points. He provided Edmonton with some physicality as he threw 95 hits, but did finish third in penalty minutes during the playoffs with 44. In the end, Kane averaged 16:29 of ice time a game while generating 47 shots on goal.

    Kane's 2025-26 Predictions

There are a lot of questions marks surrounding Kane heading into the 2025-26 season. The big one is health and whether or not his body will hold up over an 82-game schedule plus a post-season run. That being said, if he does stay healthy, he will add a physical element to the Canucks lineup, which should make Vancouver a harder team to play against.

As for his place in the lineup, that will also be something to watch early in the year. While some believe he should play on the first line with Elias Pettersson, he may be more impactful in a third-line role where he can take advantage of matchups. Kane should also see time on the power play, where he will look to replicate his 2019-20 season with the San Jose Sharks, where he scored 14 goals with the man advantage.

The 2025-26 season will also be an important one for Kane as he will be an unrestricted free agent next July. If he does bounce back and show that he has more in the tank, it could mean one final big contract for the former Vancouver Giants' star. Ultimately, there will be a lot of pressure on Kane to perform this year, especially now that he is playing in his hometown.
