Vegas defenseman Brayden McNabb said milestone is "just a number."

Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Brayden McNabb isn’t going to really think about playing in his 700^thcareer NHL game or if it’s anything special.

“It’s just a number really,” he said.

Either way, McNabb has been a steady force for the Golden Knights since he arrived when the franchise started in 2017. The original ‘Misfit’ has 16 points this season (two goals, 14 assists).

But McNabb’s contribution to the Golden Knights comes more on the defensive side of the ice.

He was one of the NHL’s leading shot blockers. He’s third in the NHL with 114 blocked shots.

“He's predictable. Takes care of all the heavy lifting net front. Physicality, corner work. He's good at putting out fires defensively with his stick and block a shot if something breaks down,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “He usually goes back to position as he's usually in position to do that.”

Mentoring young defensemen is another aspect of McNabb’s role as a veteran. Typically when a young defenseman is called up he is paired with McNabb.

It’s McNabb cherishes, even if he doesn’t do anything different when put in that position.

“I’m just trying to help no matter who I'm playing. Just communicate well and support well,” McNabb said. “Try and feed into what they do well. So you know whoever it is, I try and play my game. I don't want to change anything, but just help the guy I'm playing with as much as I can.”

Cassidy said it’s the fact that McNabb is predictable that makes him an ideal partner for a young defenseman.

“He's a calming influence. He's not this overly vocal. He's kind of workman like,” Cassidy said. “All around good guy. You're naturally going to gravitate to those guys with confidence.”
