Tomas Hertl has three points in four games with Vegas.
Better and better. That’s how Tomas Hertl evaluated his short time with the Vegas Golden Knights.
The forward has two goals and an assist in three games with the Golden Knights. He would have another goal but that was called off due to goalie interference. Regardless of how many points he has thus far, Hertl is showing that he’s adapting well to his new team and
“Every day I feel better and better,” Hertl said. “I think the last two games went pretty well, and hopefully I can be better and better.”
Hertl spent much of his time in Vegas recovering from left knee surgery to remove loose cartilage. In 48 games with the San Jose Sharks this season, he had 34 points (15 goals, 19 assists).
He’s been noticeable on the ice and has quickly become one of Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy’s most-played forwards in terms of ice time.
Both of his goals have showed different aspects of his skills: one was outracing a defender to a loose puck and firing it short side, while the second was a tip in front of the net. He has a nose for the net, and that’s a good thing if you’re Vegas.
“Hopefully, I find a lot of goals in the playoffs,” Hertl said.
If Hertl’s recent play is any indication, it might be a good thing that his best days as a Golden Knight are ahead of him. He’s still learning the system, developing chemistry with his linemates, and, overall, just getting a feel for what it’s like to be in Vegas after spending so much time in teal and white.
“Fun as always, right?” Cassidy said. “He loves playing the game. He's not a guy that gets excitable out there in terms of squeezing the stick. He’s got a smile on his face the whole game. He wants to go over the boards every time. He wants to be a difference-maker. That's what I've seen so far.”
