Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports - McCrimmon Confirms That Stone Will Be Out For The Regular Season

GM Kelly McCrimmon spoke to the media today and confirmed that Mark Stone will be out for the remainder of the regular season.

Stone suffered a lacerated spleen against the Nashville Predators on Feb. 20. Stone was first placed on the IR but was later shifted to the LTIR once Jack Eichel returned to the lineup.

With 19 games remaining, we now know for sure that Stone will not return to play during the regular season.

In McCrimmon's press conference, he stated why he waited to share this information.

"When he was injured I made my mind up that when we had media availability after the trade deadline we would share with the media and our fans what we can mark out as a very serious injury."

Many fans have come to the conclusion that Stone will only be on the LTIR until the playoffs and then return when the salary cap doesn't affect the team but McCrimmon put an end to those claims.

"This is a different type of injury than what hockey players normally sustain. This is all about CT scans that determine the health of the spleen. It's impossible to know what the timeline is. I'm sure every single person in this room has Googled 'lacerated spleen' and you can tell that it's a bit of a tough one to pinpoint in terms of circulating the date."

McCrimmon also said that he doesn't believe this injury will have any long-term effects on Stone.
