The Vegas Golden Knights have acquired Tomas Hertl from the San Jose Sharks.
The Golden Knights are trading their 2025 first-round pick and David Edstrom who was their first-round pick in 2023 for Hertl, a third-round pick in 2025 and a third-round pick in 2027.
Hertl is currently on the IR after having knee surgery but is expected to return this season.
The Czech forward has played in 48 games this season scoring 15 goals and 34 points. The 30-year-old is signed for $8.1375M for six more seasons. The Sharks will be retaining 17% of his salary dropping his AAV to $6.75M. Hertl had to waive his no-move-clause to be traded to the Golden Knights. If Hertl is available to return before the post-season the Golden Knights will need to move players to the AHL to fit him under the cap limit.
Hertl can play as a winger and a centre, allowing a lot of versatility within the Golden Knights lineup. He's a creative offensive player who will instantly help the Golden Knights score with his playmaking ability.
The Golden Knights had a busy week adding Anthony Mantha, Noah Hanifin and Tomas Hertl this week in attempts to win back-to-back Stanley Cups.
