Credit: Torontomarlboros.comThe Toronto Marlboros Holiday Classic quarterfinals have wrapped up, and we had a couple of upsets.
It was a showdown between the two top Ontario Prep organizations, Upper Canada College and Hill Academy. Both teams feature two players who very well should go in the top five of the 2026 OHL Draft in Upper Canada’s 6-foot-7 Logan Prud’homme and Hill Academy’s Tanner Adams.
Upper Canada has been ranked among the top five in the OHL Cup standings since Week 2. They were the runners-up at the 2025 Whitby Silver Stick tournament held in November. However, they will not be finishing as runners-up in this event, as Hill Academy achieved an upset by defeating Upper Canada College with a score of 5-1. Hill Academy's impressive victory featured four unanswered goals, powering their commanding win.
The top-ranked GTHL team, the Vaughan Kings, faced off against the host team, the Toronto Marlboros, who have been soaring as of late.
The Marlboros got out to a hot start, scoring three goals in the first period. Adding another in the second, Vaughan notched two of their own, but ultimately couldn’t mount the comeback, as the number-one GTHL team gets upset by the hosts.
There was one more GTHL team in the quarterfinals. The Don Mills Flyers took down the GTHL’s Mississauga Senators in the round of 16 and faced off against the Ajax-Pickering Raiders in the quarters. The Raiders scored in the second period and then added two empty netters to take down the Flyers.
The final game of the quarterfinals was between two familiar OHL logos. The Barrie Colts went up against the top-ranked in the Alliance division, the London Jr. Knights. The Knights are 18-2 in their regular season with a goal differential of +90. The Colts are 19-2-2, with a differential of +61. As expected, it was an extremely tight contest, which needed overtime to solve. London was victorious, advancing to tomorrow’s semi-finals.
The two semi-final matchups will take place at 8:15 am EST. The Finals will be later on in the day at 1 pm EST. The two games are below:
Toronto Marlboros (7) vs. Hill Academy (8)
Ajax-Pickering Raiders (HM) vs. London Jr. Knights (6)
