It was all Kitchener, all night as the Rangers win the Memorial Cup opener.

It was a dream start to the 2026 Memorial Cup for the Kitchener Rangers, as they dominated all facets of the game to grab an early 1-0 record, taking down the host Kelowna Rockets in the tournament opener.

The final score of 5-0 might have even flattered the Rockets, who looked completely outclassed on the evening.

Here's all the action from a convincing Kitchener victory.

It was as close to a perfect performance as you can find at this level.

The Kitchener Rangers were simply the better team. They looked more set up to win, their offence created more, they defended better, and they even won the physical battle on the night.

The party started in the first period as Dylan Edwards banked a rebound off of Kelowna goaltender Harrison Boettiger and in, continuing his excellent season into the biggest stage.

That would be all for the first on the scoresheet, though a Jared Woolley and Dawson Gerwing fight got the crowd going as well. Kitchener held the balance of play in the opening 20, something that got even more pronounced in the second period.

It took a while for Boettiger to crack again, but it was Woolley who potted one, a big insurance goal late in the second to give Kitchener some insurance heading into the third.

The shots were 31-13 in favour of the Rangers after two, as it really was just Boettiger keeping his side in the game while the Rangers dominated possession and absolutely locked down the neutral zone defensively, not letting Kelowna's top forwards in Tij Iginla, Carson Wetsch and Vojtech Cihar get any room at all.

In the final frame, the 1-2-2 trap really got set up as Kitchener looked to close out the win as they've done so well through the OHL playoffs.

The Rangers also kept taking the physical edge over their frustrated WHL opponent, with a massive Carson Campbell hit on Rockets assistant captain Mazden Leslie sparked another fight, this one between Campbell and Nate Corbet, with significantly more blows landed than the first period tilt.

While the continuous offensive pressure dried up as the defensive mindset came into play in the third, it didn't stop Kitchener from getting opportunities in transition with Kelowna pushing to get back in the game.

A pretty Luca Romano bank pass to spring Jack Pridham on a breakaway seemed to open the floodgates, as he sniped one past Boettiger to put the game out of reach at 3-0.

The ever-reliable and experienced Sam O'Reilly chipped in with a fourth, taking a pass in the middle of the ice before scoring on the backhand. Then, an Alexander Bilecki shot went off the leg of Haeden Ellis in front to cap off the five-star performance in Kitchener's first Mem Cup game in 18 years.

Christian Kirsch didn't have too much to do, but came up when needed to grab a 24-save shutout. Campbell (0+2), Pridham (1+1), Bilecki (0+2) and Edwards (1+1) led the way offensively with two points each, as the team depth of the Rangers showed out in this one.

The Rangers now get two days off before a stiff test against the WHL champion Everett Silvertips awaits them on Monday night.
