Cam Reid will be heading to play collegiately at the University of Michigan next season

Coming off captaining the Kitchener Rangers to a Memorial Cup championship, Cameron Reid has announced the next step in his hockey career.

The Nashville Predators' 2025 first-round pick will be joining the University of Michigan this fall, heading down to play in the NCAA at one of its top programs.

Reid, 19, is coming off a stellar final junior season, scoring 56 (15+41) points in 57 regular season games as the leader on a stellar Rangers' blue line.

The Aylmer, Ont., native also suited up for Canada at the 2026 World Juniors, winning a silver medal.

Always seen as a top prospect, Reid was selected 10th overall in the 2023 OHL draft by Kitchener, who developed him into one of the league's top blueliners.

His body of work was strong enough to see the Predators take him 21st overall in the 2025 NHL draft, being the fifth defenseman taken in last year's draft.

Now, he heads to a powerhouse Michigan program that will include former star OHLers including Henry Mews, Jack Ivankovic, Jack Nesbitt, Malcolm Spence and more.

For Kitchener, this is a big blow, though maybe not a surprise. Reid still had one more year of regular junior eligibility, but recent trends have shown top prospects are starting to head stateside earlier and earlier.

While there was always expected to be roster turnover after a Memorial Cup triumph, not being able to even flip their captain for assets is a bit of a loss.

Still, they'll definitely take the silverware Reid helped bring to the team, and he'll go down as one of Kitchener's most successful captains.
