Nick Sykora has left the Owen Sound Attack to join Western Michigan University ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Just about a week before training camps for the 2026-27 season really get underway, the Owen Sound Attack are losing a key forward.
Nicholas Sykora has announced his commitment to NCAA Western Michigan University, leaving for the new season with very short notice.
Sykora, 19, was initially committed to Quinnipiac for the 2027-28 campaign, but has chosen to switch his commitment in order to make the jump to college hockey in the immediate future.

“Over the course of the summer we had excellent discussion with Nick Sykora. Nick was very excited about the new direction taking place with our organization, but ultimately felt that College Hockey was his next step this season when a new opportunity presented itself”
The Roseland, NJ, native joined the Attack ahead of last season after a couple of seasons in the USHL, and scored 44 (24+20) points in 67 games in his first and now likely only OHL campaign.
With Tristan Delisle also leaving for college hockey this summer, there's suddenly some pretty big gaps in the goal scoring department of the Attack's forward group.
Pierce Mbuyi, Harry Nansi and Cole Zurawski are still around and should provide plenty of offence, but with Delisle and now Sykora leaving, it will mean more depth players on Owen Sound will need to step up into bigger roles.
