Both teams have announced the signing of their top import picks from this year's selection.
The CHL import draft is one of the more delicate processes in the league, as teams try to balance upside shots with the likelihood of European players deciding to come and play in major junior in the first place.
But, clubs who maximize their imports can get extra contributors who help propel good teams into great teams when it matters most.
Both the Brampton Steelheads and Brantford Bulldogs feel they've hit home runs with their top import picks from this year's draft, and both teams have inked the player they selected seventh and 13th overall, respectively
Oskari Ahmajarvi was the first goaltender taken in this year's import draft with the seventh overall pick, and Brampton clearly sees the Finnish netminder as their new starter for next season.
The 17-year-old played mostly with the Kiekko-Espoo U20 team, posting a 15-11-0 record with a .910 save percentage and 2.34 goals-against average last season.
Ahmajarvi has also been a regular feature with the Finland youth teams, playing with both the U17s and U18s in the past couple of seasons, typically as the starter.
While he went undrafted in 2026, a strong season in the OHL could see some interest in the 6-foot, 181-pound goalie, and a potential spot with the Finnish World Junior team wouldn't hurt either, if he can play his way onto that.
To save any confusion, the Adam Nemec Brantford has signed has no relation to the brother pair of Calgary Flames blueliner Simon and namesake Sudbury Wolves forward and recent Ottawa Senators draft pick Adam Nemec.
The easiest way to differentiate between the two is by nationality, where the other two are Slovak, while the Bulldogs' newest addition is Czech.
This Nemec, 16, is a goal-scoring winger who split time last season with the Bílí Tygři Libarec U17 and U20 systems, putting up 23 goals and 34 points in 33 games with the U20 team.
He also played a ton internationally with the Czech U17 program, posting a combined 17 goals and nine assists in 22 games across an array of tournaments, including two goals at the U17 worlds.
Nemec is eligible for the 2027 NHL draft as. a July 2009 birthday, and if he can bring his goal-scoring flair to the OHL, he could be in business to be selected next June.
