The Islanders continue their off-season rebuild with another import signing

As QMJHL rookie camps begin to open across the league, there are still a few signings materializing from some teams looking to fill out their rosters.

The Charlottetown Islanders made one of those moves on Monday, adding an import blueliner in Latvian Leonards Aleksandrs Grundmanis.

Grundmanis, 17, comes over to North America after playing the past two seasons with Luleå's youth teams in Sweden. Last year, he played with the U18 team, scoring a combined 20 (3+17) points in 37 games between the regional and national leagues.

Charlottetown have made a few moves in recent weeks, including a good number on what will be a revamped blue line in 2026-27. Last week, they signed American defenseman Cameron Holyoke and import D Artem Mate.

It appears the Islanders will indeed have three new imports next season, as in addition to Mate and Gundmanis, they've also signed Ukrainian forward Oleksii Kryvonos.
