A minor transaction as the week starts, as the Charlottetown Islanders have picked up American defenseman Cameron Holyoke from the Moncton Wildcats in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2028 QMJHL draft.
Holyoke, 17, was the 200th overall pick in last year's QMJHL draft. The Boston-born, Illinois native played last season with the Bishop Kearney Selects 16U program, while also appearing in 10 USHL games with the Madison Capitols.
In 48 games with the 16U BK Selects, the 6-foot-1 blueliner posted 37 (10+27) points.
It's yet to be confirmed whether Holyoke will be signing with Charlottetown or not, but giving up a fourth makes it seem likely. It's a move that makes sense for the player, as given the amount of talent the Wildcats have added on the back end this summer, it's unlikely he'd have much of a spot.
Also in Charlottetown news, they've announced the signing of their 2026 first-round import pick, Artem Mate.
The 17-year-old Russian blueliner captained Spartak Moscow's U18 team last year, posting 12 (6+6) points in 13 games.
The 6-foot-3 Mate has appeared for Russia at the U16 and U17 levels, and is a prospect with a legit case to be drafted into the NHL next summer if he has a good season in the Q.
In the end, the Islanders likely added two pieces to their blue line on Monday, which is solid business with training camps coming up at the end of the month.
