Halifax has signed their two top picks in the 2026 import draft, including the second overall Paul Sintschnig.
The Halifax Mooseheads have been adding to their team in recent days, and just announced another pair of signings on Wednesday with a very Austrian flavour to them.
The team's top two picks in the 2026 import draft, Paul Sintschnig and Nico Uschan, will be joining the team for the 2026-27 season.
Sintschnig, 17, was the second overall pick in this year's import draft. The Klagenfurt native played most of last season with the Villacher SV program, scoring seven (5+2) points in 32 ICEHL games and added a ridiculous 12 (4+8) points in just three U20 games.
The 6-foot-1 forward has also been a fixture with Austria at basically every level. He's appeared for his country at the U18 Division 1B tournament, helping win promotion, played at the U20 D1A, and even got into three games with the senior national team last year.
Sintschnig is one of the brightest prospects in Austrian hockey right now, and is eligible for the 2027 NHL draft. A big season in Halifax will see him get his name called next June.
Uschan, 19, also comes from the Villacher program. He recorded four (1+3) points in 24 ICEHL games last year, and had the same statline in 20 games on loan to EK Zell am See in the AlpsHL.
The 6-foot-1 blueliner has represented his country at every youth level over the years, including being a regular for Austria at the U20 D1A this past year.
For Halifax, these are two signings that continue to complete a team looking to take a real step and compete next year. We'll see how high the Austrians can help the Mooseheads climb.
