Saint John will add some experience and physicality with Hlacar.
The Saint John Sea Dogs have been looking for some physicality and depth to fill out their roster ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, and they're turning to an experienced player to try and do so.
Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick Matthew Hlacar will be joining the team's training camp roster, looking to earn a spot as an overager on a team that wants to compete for some silverware next season.
Hlacar comes over from the OHL, where he played the past two seasons on the Kitchener Rangers, capping his career in Ontario off with a Memorial Cup last season.

(Photo: Natalie Shaver/OHL Images)The Binbrook, Ont., native had 12 (6+6) points in 51 regular-season games with Kitchener last season, and then added a goal in 15 playoff games. He's a physical, mean, bottom of the lineup type of player who sets the tone with his body and on the forecheck.
Now, he looks to add that and his championship experience to the QMJHL, and prove himself to the Saint John brass.
Additionally, the Sea Dogs announced Maratime Junior Hockey League playoff MVP Jayden Connors to their training camp roster as well.
The blueliner has four games of OHL experience with the Sudbury Wolves, and is committed to the NCAA's University of New Hampshire.
