The Saint John Sea Dogs and Shawinigan Cataractes have wasted no time completing two trades with one another Monday as the trade period opens.
In the end, it looks like this: Shawinigan receives 18-year-old forward William Yared and two second-round picks (CHA 2027, SNB 2028), while Saint John receives 20-year-old blueliner Julien Lanthier and a 2029 second-rounder.
In essence, the Cats get a young, former top pick with some potential, while the Sea Dogs get a key veteran blueliner as they continue their push towards a big upcoming season.

He hasn't quite been able to become a go-to offensive player there the way he and the team would've hoped throughout his first two seasons, but he's still scored 24 goals and 31 assists in 106 QMJHL games.
A Penn State commit, Yared is currently committed to head the NCAA route for the 2027-28 season, but things can always change in that department.
Lanthier is a veteran, smooth-skating two-way blueliner, able to bring needed experience and playoff readiness to a still-young Saint John team.
The 10th overall pick in the 2022 QMJHL draft is about to enter his fourth and final season in the league as an overager, and will be tasked with key minutes on the Saint John blue line.
