A deep dive into the New Jersey Devils' WHL prospect pool.
Welcome to this edition of the 2026 WHL Prospect Pools. Throughout the 2026 off-season, we will be looking at current or recently graduated WHLers who have been drafted or signed by NHL clubs. Today's organization is the New Jersey Devils.
The Devils have two prospects who played in the WHL last season. Both played in the U.S. Division and were drafted this past June. Here is a look at Matias Vanhanen and Luke Wilfley.
Starting with Vanhanen, he had a rookie campaign to remember with the Everett Silvertips. The 18-year-old forward recorded 87 points in 62 games during the regular season before leading the Silvertips in scoring with eight points in five games at the 2026 Memorial Cup. Vanhanen has already committed to the NCAA, where he will be joining Boston College.
As for Wilfley, he also recently finished his first full season in the WHL. The 18-year-old forward scored nine goals and recorded 15 points in 66 games last year for the Portland Winterhawks. Wilfley also has an NCAA commitment as he will be joining Arizona State University.
