On Thursday at the Langley Events Centre, the Vancouver Giants and the Western Hockey League officially announced that Michael Bublé and Property Brothers star Drew Scott will serve as celebrity guest coaches for the showcase on February 18.
Both Bublé and Scott, who are minority owners of the Giants, will go head-to-head behind the benches, adding a layer of entertainment to a prospects showcase game presented by the WHL.
For Bublé, a Burnaby native and lifelong hockey fanatic, the appointment is a natural extension of his involvement with the franchise. Standing alongside Giants majority owner Ron Toigo and WHL Commissioner Dan Near, Bublé expressed his excitement about mentoring the next generation of NHL talent.
While the celebrities will draw the eyes of casual fans, the 2026 WHL Prospects Game remains the premier stage for the league's top draft-eligible talent.
The press conference featured several Giants who will be suiting up for the game, including top-tier prospects Ryan Lin, Tobias Tomik, Joe Iginla, and Brett Olson. Mathis Preston was also expected to play, but is unable due to injury; Tomik replaces him.
WHL Commissioner Dan Near noted that the addition of Bublé and Scott is part of a broader push to elevate the profile of the league’s signature events.
With Michael Bublé and Drew Scott trading play-calling duties, the atmosphere at the LEC is expected to be electric.
The 2026 WHL Prospects Game puck drop is set for 7:00 PM PST on Wednesday, February 18.
