Welcome to THN's "WHL Standouts From The Week" article. In this weekly column, we highlight one player from each division who impressed over the last week. Here is a look at the four standouts from week three.
Riley Heidt- Prince George Cougars
Riley Heidt put on a show in his first few games as captain of the Prince George Cougars. Over his three games, he posted a goal and five assists, highlighted by a three-point performance against the Kelowna Rockets. Heidt also surpassed the 200-assist mark for his career and is now just 14 points away from 300 for his career.
Connor Hvidston- Calgary Hitmen
Connor Hvidston had a productive week, putting up back-to-back-to-back two-point games. He scored the game-winner against the Vancouver Giants while also going ten for 17 in the faceoff dot over the three games. Now up to 100 assists for his WHL career, Hvidston is looking more and more comfortable in the Calgary Hitmen's lineup.
Shea Van Olm- Spokane Chiefs
What a weekend it was for Shea Van Olm. The Spokane Chiefs forward had seven points in two games and is now up to 13 points in six games on the season. Off to one of their best starts in franchise history, Van Olm and the Chiefs are going to be a problem for teams around the WHL this season.
Rylan Gould- Swift Current Broncos
Rylan Gould may have put together the best performance of the young WHL season. Gould had two goals and three assists in a 6-3 victory against the Saskatoon Blades and followed it up the next night with a goal against the Brandon Wheat Kings. Now, in his fourth WHL season, Gould is on pace to set new career highs in goals and points once again.
