The Tri-City Americans are headed back to the playoffs. After a one-year absence, the Americans secured their spot in the 2025 WHL Playoffs after a 2-1 overtime victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds. Tri-City is the fifth team in the West to clinch a spot in the postseason and the eighth team overall this season.
With 31 wins and 68 points, the Americans currently find themselves in fifth place in the West. If the playoffs started today, they would battle the Prince George Cougars, who they are 1-2-1 against this season. Tri-City will be looking to pick up their first playoff series win since 2018 when they made it to the Western Conference Final.
The Americans are loaded with talent and look poised to go on a long playoff run. Jake Sloan and Max Curran continue to lead, while 2025 NHL draft prospects Jackson Smith and Gavin Garland have put forth impressive campaigns. As for goaltender Lukas Matecha, he has already set a new career high with 26 wins, which ranks fourth in the WHL.
