Welcome to THN's "WHL Standouts Of The Week" article. In this weekly column, we highlight one player from each division who impressed over the last week. Here are four standouts from Week 1 of the 2026-27 season.
Alexander Levshyn- Prince George Cougars
Alexander Levshyn kicked off the 2026-27 campaign in style. The Prince George Cougars goaltender stopped 29 of 30 shots against the Penticton Vees to earn his first win of the season. Levshyn looks ready to take over as the Cougars' starting goaltender and will be a key part in Prince George's quest to secure another B.C. Division title.
Luke Cozens- Medicine Hat Tigers
It didn't take long for Luke Cozens to find the back of the net this season. The Medicine Hat Tigers forward picked up his first hat trick of the campaign against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday night. Cozens is looking to build off a career year in what will be his final WHL season.
Grayson Malinoski- Seattle Thunderbirds
Grayson Malinoski is now the answer to the trivia question: Which goalie recorded the first shutout of the 2026-27 WHL campaign? The Seattle Thunderbirds goaltender stopped all 31 shots he faced in an overtime win over the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday. The shutout was the first of Malinoski's career and the 19th win he has picked up over the last four seasons.
Hunter Laing- Saskatoon Blades
Have a weekend Hunter Laing. The Saskatoon Blades forward wasted no time piling up the stats, as he recorded three goals and three assists over two games. Laing was also impressive in the faceoff dot, as he posted a 71.4 win percentage.
