Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin expanded his trade list while rumors suggest he could be moved soon. Meanwhile, some Montreal pundits suggested Philadelphia Flyers winger Owen Tippett could be a good fit with the Canadiens.
Are the Detroit Red Wings close to finally trading Dylan Larkin?
MLive.com's Ansar Khan cited ESPN’s John Buccigross, who recently suggested it could happen soon.
During an appearance last Friday on the Frankly Hockey podcast, Buccigross told host Frank Seravalli he'd received information that a deal could be made within seven to 10 days. However, he didn't say which club could be involved or what return the Red Wings would receive.
Larkin originally listed the Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, and Vegas Golden Knights as his preferred destinations. Khan noted that he later expanded the list to include the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Washington Capitals, among others.
On Tuesday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reported that Larkin’s list has grown to 10 teams, including the Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, and Utah Mammoth.
The problem is that those clubs can't afford the Red Wings' high asking price, Larkin's $8.7 million AAV, or aren't in the market for a center. Khan noted that Wild general manager Bill Guerin is believed to be interested in acquiring the 30-year-old center, but the asking price remains the sticking point.
The Hockey News' Jake Tye recently reported that TSN's Darren Dreger claimed the Red Wings seek two "Grade-A prospects", a first-round pick, and a top-nine forward in return.
Dreger believes the Montreal Canadiens would pay that price for Larkin, but he doesn’t see the long-time Wings forward including the Canadiens on his trade list.
St. James' report indicated that Larkin hasn't included any of the seven Canadian franchises on his list. That should end the trade scenarios being dreamed up by some Montreal fans in case he changes his mind.
Flyers' Tippett A Match For Canadiens?
Speaking of the Canadiens, Nick Lariviere of The Sick Podcast noted their failed attempts to acquire wingers Matthew Knies and Kirill Marchenko earlier this year. He recommends they shift their focus to the struggling Philadelphia Flyers.
Lariviere cited Marco D'Amico of The Starr and D’Amico Show, suggesting Owen Tippett as a good fit for the Canadiens.
Both believe the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Tippett would provide a solid mix of physicality and scoring punch to the Canadiens' roster. Lariviere indicated that the 27-year-old winger averaged 25 goals and 50 points in recent years and carries a team-friendly $6.2 million AAV through 2031-32.
The Flyers have had their difficulties so far, but they’re reportedly not ready to be sellers or make any rash trades to reverse their fortunes. Tippett also has a 10-team no-trade list and, like Larkin, could be unwilling to come to Montreal.
