In this edition of The Hockey News Morning Skate, Eric Cruikshank and Michael Traikos break down the Philadelphia Flyers' continuous struggles, William Nylander's milestone game with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and more.

Welcome to The Hockey News Morning Skate, where we give a quick recap of all the action from the NHL every weekday morning so you stay up to date.

It was a full weekend of action on the ice with 21 games between Friday and Sunday, leaving a ton of intriguing matchups to recap.

Let's run through the biggest storylines that emerged from this weekend's slate, and make sure to check out the video version of this story above.

Flyers Stay Winless

For the first time in franchise history, the Philadelphia Flyers have failed to record a win through their first seven games of the season. After a 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday, the Flyers have now been outscored 28-8 in that span.

Chants of 'fire Tocchet' echoed through XFinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia in the final minutes of the game, and if these struggles continue, a change behind the bench has to be a possibility.

On the other side of this matchup, the Hurricanes rattled off their fifth straight victory to improve to 5-1-1. Sebastian Aho picked up a goal and an assist to continue his hot start to the season, tying him for the league lead in goals (6) while also sitting tied for third in points (11).

Nylander's Five-Point Night

On Saturday, Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander put together the second five-point game of his career to help defeat the Colorado Avalanche 6-3. Nylander also passed 700 career points in this matchup (now at 702) and became the seventh-fastest Swedish player in NHL history to reach that milestone.

Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar had some interesting comments involving goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood's performance in this matchup: "He needs to give us a save at one point there. I can't blame him for any of the goals. None. But if you're giving up 4 shots in a period, and 3 goals, you'd like him to make a save in some of those."

Blackwood now has an .867 save percentage and a 3.30 goals-against average through his first four starts.

Rangers Win Without Shesterkin

After being dealt a huge blow on Saturday with the news that goaltender Igor Shesterkin will be out for the rest of the season with a lower-body injury, the New York Rangers managed to secure a 6-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday to improve to 5-2-0.

With backup goaltender Joonas Korpisalo out for the next several weeks with a lower-body injury of his own, the Rangers turned to 24-year-old netminder Dylan Garand for this contest, and will turn to him for the foreseeable future. Garand made 19 saves in this win against the Canucks and now has a .947 SP and a 1.43 GAA in six career NHL apperances.
