In this edition of The Hockey News Morning Skate, Eric Cruikshank and Michael Traikos break down Tim Stutzle's big night against the New Jersey Devils, Quinn Hughes extending his point streak in a win over the Vegas Golden Knights, and more.

Welcome to The Hockey News Morning Skate, where we give a quick recap of all the action from the NHL every weekday morning so you stay up to date.

Only six teams were in action across three games around the league on Monday in anticipation of a huge Frozen Frenzy with all 32 franchises hitting the ice on Tuesday.

Let's run through the biggest storylines that emerged from last night, and make sure to check out the video version of this story above.

Stutzle And Senators Stay Hot

The Ottawa Senators improved their record to 5-1-1 on Monday with help from Tim Stutzle, who registered a goal and an assist to elevate his team to a 4-1 win over the New Jersey Devils. Stutzle now has five goals and 10 points in only five games, giving him five more points than the next-closest skater on the Senators.

Additionally, goaltender Linus Ullmark became just the third goaltender in franchise history to win his first five starts of the season. The 33-year-old now has a .948 save percentage and a 1.82 goals-against average.

Hughes Extends Point Streak With Wild

With two assists in a 4-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights, Minnesota Wild defenseman Quinn Hughes is now riding a six-game point streak to kick off the season. He's also averaging the fourth-most ice time per game of all skaters in the NHL, playing nearly 27 minutes a night.

Between the pipes, Jesper Wallstedt continued his solid start to the season with a 21-save effort to improve his record to 4-1-1. The 23-year-old is expected to carry a heavy workload as Filip Gustavsson continues to recover from off-season hip surgery, but it doesn't seem to be bothering him, putting together a .933 SP and 1.82 GAA through six games.

Thompson Hits Major Milestone In Sabres Win

With his fourth goal of the season, No. 220 for his career, Tage Thompson tied Jason Pominville for 10th on the Buffalo Sabres' all-time goals list. Thompson is projected to climb even further up this list in the coming weeks, sitting just five back of Rene Robert (220, 9th) and 17 back of Miroslav Slatan (224, 8th). Thompson reached this total in 239 less games than Pominville.

Things weren't all positive for the Sabres in their 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers, with Rasmus Dahlin exiting in the second period of this matchup before later being ruled out with an upper-body injury. Head coach Lindy Ruff announced post-game that Dahlin is considered day-to-day and won't fly with the team to Montreal.
