It has been a tough season for the Boston Bruins, and they do not hold a playoff spot right now because of it. With the 2025 NHL trade deadline now just over one week away, there is a good chance that the Bruins will be making some changes to their group.
According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, Bruins' pending unrestricted free agents Trent Frederic and Justin Brazeau are drawing trade interest from multiple teams with the deadline rapidly approaching.
Frederic, 27, is no stranger to the rumor mill. The pending unrestricted free agent has been the subject of trade speculation all season, and with the deadline almost here, it is only picking up.
It is no secret that contenders love to add hard-nosed players like Frederic at the deadline, so hearing that teams have their eye on him is understandable. However, the 2016 first-round pick also suffered an injury against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 25, which could impact his chances of being dealt if it turns out to be serious.
In 57 games this season with the Bruins, Frederic has eight goals, 15 points, 155 hits, and a minus-14 rating. This is after he had 18 goals and 40 points in 82 games last season.
Brazeau garnering interest is also understandable. The 27-year-old winger has an easily affordable $775,000 cap hit until the end of the season, so he could be a good forward for a playoff team looking for more depth.
While Brazeau has cooled off lately, he has shown this season that he can provide secondary scoring when playing at his best. In 54 games with Boston this campaign, he has 10 goals and 20 points. He also is not afraid to throw the body, as his 82 hits on the season show.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Frederic and Brazeau from here, but it is clear that they are among Boston's top trade candidates.
