The Boston Bruins are entering a crucial off-season. After an underwhelming 2024-25 season, the Bruins are expected to have a busy summer. This is especially so when noting that they have plenty of cap space to work with.
They also must decide which of their pending free agents they want to bring back. Naturally, we should expect to see them move on from a few of them, so let's look at three players the Bruins may not bring back.
It seems possible that the Bruins won't be bringing back depth defenseman Parker Wotherspoon this off-season. The 27-year-old has worked well as a seventh defenseman for the Bruins, but they have younger options who are likely ready to take over the role.
In 96 games over the last two seasons with the Bruins, Wotherspoon had one goal, 15 points, 133 hits, and a minus-4 rating.
Lettieri was a decent call-up option for the Bruins this season, but it would be understandable if the 30-year-old this summer. The Bruins have plenty of bottom-six forwards ahead of the Minnesota native on their depth chart.
In 26 games this season for Boston, Lettieri had three goals, two assists, and a minus-9 rating. Down in the AHL with the Providence Bruins, he posted 21 goals, 50 points, and a minus-1 rating.
There is also a chance that Henri Jokiharju signs elsewhere this off-season. There are not too many notable pending UFA right-shot defensemen, so the 25-year-old could very well elect to test the market.
Jokiharju was brought in at the deadline by the Bruins after the Original Six club traded fellow right-shot blueliner Brandon Carlo. However, it is hard to say if he is somebody they view as a long-term replacement for Carlo in their top four. In 18 games with the Bruins following the trade, he posted four assists, 15 hits, and a plus-7 rating.
