Brad Marchand Opens Up After Bruins Trade

On March 7, the Boston Bruins shocked the hockey world by trading former captain Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers. This marked the end of an amazing era in Bruins history.

Marchand broke his silence about the trade on March 10 while speaking to reporters, including WPBF 25 News' Yianni Kourakis, down in Florida. While doing so, Marchand once again made it clear that his hope was to stay in Boston up until the trade.

"I've had an incredible run in that organization, and I'm extremely proud just how things went there," an emotional Marchand said. "It was very disappointing that things didn't get done because, obviously, I love the organization and wanted to stay there, but at the end of the day, I also know business is a business and every player has a shelf life. Regardless of that's when we want it to be or not. Sometimes there are things out of our control that dictate situations."

Marchand was certainly correct in saying that he had a spectacular run with the Bruins. After being drafted by the Bruins with the 71st overall pick of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, he spent all 16 of his NHL seasons with the Original Six club before this trade. Over that span, he was simply spectacular.

In 1,090 career regular-season games with the Bruins, Marchand had 422 goals, 554 assists, 976 points, and a plus-284 rating. He also had 56 goals and 138 points in 157 playoff games as a Bruin. This also, of course, included a Stanley Cup back in 2011.

It is a shame that the Bruins did not find a way to get Marchand to spend his entire career in Boston.
