Former Bruins defender Kevin Shattenkirk is still looking for his new home. Where could he end up?

Jake DeBrusk and Charlie Coyle were The Hockey News picks for the mid-season Selke Trophy.

Former Boston Bruins defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk remains unsigned two weeks after the start of free agency. After posting a 24-point campaign in 61 games with Boston, there could be a team out there willing to sign him to a cheap one-year deal before the start of the season.

Because of this, let's discuss three clubs who could look to sign him now.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes lost a decent chunk of depth on the right side of their defense this offseason. The Hurricanes let Brett Pesce and Tony DeAngelo walk and traded Dylan Coghlan. Thus, the Hurricanes could look to add Shattenkirk as an extra defenseman.

Shattenkirk could also be open to the prospect of joining the Hurricanes. While he would not have a guaranteed spot in their top six, he would get the chance to play for another contender as their seventh d-man.

San Jose Sharks

If Shattenkirk wants the chance to have a bigger role, the San Jose Sharks could be a good landing spot for him. The right side of their defense is quite weak, and there have been rumblings that they are not done adding to their blueline because of it.

While the Sharks are rebuilding, GM Mike Grier has shown that he is open to adding veteran talent, as he brought in Tyler Toffoli, Alex Wennberg, Barclay Goodrow, and Jake Walman this offseason. Perhaps Shattenkirk could be next.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Columbus Blue Jackets are another potential club to watch when it comes to Shattenkirk. Their blueline has seen some major changes over the last few months, as Andrew Peeke, Adam Boqvist, and Jake Bean have all found new homes. They have only added Jack Johnson to their blueline since then, so perhaps they could take a shot on Shattenkirk.

If the Blue Jackets signed Shattenkirk, he would give them another veteran option for their bottom pairing and power play. He also can play both sides, which would help his chances of securing a spot in Columbus' lineup.
