The Boston Bruins need to improve their forward group this off-season if they hope to get back into the playoffs next year. This is especially so after noting that they traded forwards Brad Marchand, Charlie Coyle, and Trent Frederic at the 2025 NHL trade deadline.
There are several pending unrestricted free-agent forwards who can hit the market on July 1, including Mitch Marner, Brock Boeser, Nikolaj Ehlers, and Sam Bennett. However, the Bruins are also in a position to consider targeting pending restricted free agents with offer sheets.
When looking at potential pending RFA targets for the Bruins, one who undoubtedly stands out is New York Rangers forward Will Cuylle.
Cuylle, 23, is precisely the kind of young power forward that a retooling Bruins squad should consider making a serious push for. The 6-foot-4 winger has the tools to blossom into a top-six forward, as he not only is a very physical player but also demonstrated this season that he can make an impact offensively.
After posting 13 goals and 21 points in 81 games with the Rangers as a rookie in 2023-24, Cuylle set new career highs with 20 goals, 25 assists, and 45 points in 82 contests this campaign. In addition, he threw an impressive 301 hits, so he undoubtedly make the Bruins far more challenging to go up against if they successfully brought him in.
When looking at the Bruins' lineup, Cuylle could be a great fit on the Bruins' second line and on their power play. In addition, he could even be an option for the Bruins' penalty kill if needed, as he is not easy for opponents to go up against in the defensive zone.
Overall, with the Bruins having plenty of cap space and several holes in their lineup, they should seriously consider trying to offer sheet Cuylle. He plays like a true Bruin and has the potential to hit a new level as he continues to gain more NHL experience.
