New England Sports Network (NESN) posted a video to X the other night showing Boston Bruins blueliner Charlie McAvoy passing a puck over the glass to a young boy wearing a McAvoy jersey.
The boy was at the front of a large group of other kids, all desperate to meet the 26-year-old star at last night's home game against the Seattle Kraken, the fifth game of a seven-game homestand for the Bruins.
This is not the first time this has happened with the Bruins, with teammate Charlie Coyle passing a puck to fan back in October.
A video posted to the NHLs Facebook page, posted on Oct. 31, 2023 and seemed to be taken at the previous night's game, a 3-2 OT win against the Florida Panthers, showed him passing a puck over the boards to a fan.
The fan was wearing a purple Bruins jersey, and holding a sign saying "I Fought For My Mom" and beneath that "World's Biggest B's Fan." The fan burst into tears after being gifted the puck.
Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (73) skates with the puck against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first period at Scotiabank Arena on Dec. 2, 2023.Although NESN called yesterday night's moment with the boy "cute", it was not a good night for their hometown hockey team.
Fan reactions to the video were negative and bitter, most likely due to the fact that the Bruins ended up losing 4-1, giving up a goal each in the first two periods and two in the third. The Bruins scored once in the first period and that was it.
"Put it in the net instead," a fan replied to the X post.
McAvoy ended up making an assist and two shots on goal during the game.
Right-winger David Pastrnak scored the Bruins' only goal in the first period and made seven shots total.
