It may be time for the Bruins to give this youngster another shot at the NHL level.

In late December, the Boston Bruins recalled Georgii Merkulov from the Providence Bruins. From there, the 5-foot-11 appeared in four games, posting zero points and a plus-1 rating before being reassigned to Providence.
While Merkulov's first recall to the show was pretty quiet, he has been nothing but excellent in the AHL. The Russian forward has been lighting it up for Providence, posting 21 goals and 49 points in 49 games. Due to his strong season, he also appeared in his first AHL All-Star Game last month.

Yet, what's most encouraging about Merkulov is that his play has only gotten better as the season has gone on. Over his last 10 games, he has five goals, 10 points, and a plus-4 rating. With the Bruins struggling, could another Merkulov recall be in the cards? It is certainly possible.
Bruins forward Pavel Zacha left last night's (March 2) game against the New York Islanders with a lower-body injury. At this juncture, an estimated timeline has not been given for the severity of his injury. If he has to miss any time, that would open the door to a potential Merkulov call-up. When looking at his play as of late, it is fair to argue that he deserves another shot with Boston.
We will need to wait and see if Merkulov receives another recall from here. Either way, it is hard not to like what we are seeing from him down in Providence.
