The Bruins made a wise move bringing in Pat Maroon.
The Boston Bruins may not have brought in a star player before yesterday's trade deadline, but they did make some depth moves. Their most notable trade, however, was acquiring Pat Maroon from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for AHL forward Luke Toporowski and a conditional 2026 sixth-round draft pick.
One area that Bruins general manager Don Sweeney looked to address on the club's roster is their toughness. While they are having a solid season overall, there's no question that they have been pushed around. Once Maroon is healthy, he should remedy this situation.
Maroon, 35, is a 6-foot-3 veteran forward who is most known for his gritty style of play and overall toughness. He has kept up with that reputation this season, posting 71 hits and 60 penalty minutes in 49 games played. As a result, he will make the Bruins a more challenging team to go up against, especially during the playoffs.
Yet, besides his well-known tenacity, Maroon still can quietly put up decent offensive totals in a bottom-six role. In 49 games this season, he has four goals to go along with 16 points.
In the end, while Maroon is not a star, he has all the makings of being a solid addition to their group once he fully recovers from surgery. Let's see how the "Big Rig" performs in Boston from here.
