The 2025 NHL Draft Lottery did not treat the Boston Bruins kindly. The Original Six club dropped from the fifth spot to the seventh spot, which was the worst possible outcome for them.

Naturally, Bruins fans have expressed frustration about the Bruins dropping two spots in the draft lottery. It is no secret that they desperately need to improve their prospect pool, and a top-five pick would have helped things on that front. However, while speaking to reporters following the draft lottery results, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney made it clear that he was not too bothered by what occurred.

"We're still picking in the upper echelon of the draft, which we haven't done in a significant time period," Sweeney said. "So we feel very comfortable in terms of where the top seven picks are, and we'll get a good player, an impact player. Regardless of the disappointment of moving back a couple spots, it's just the nature of the lottery."

While a top-five pick would undoubtedly have been excellent for the Bruins to secure, drafting seventh overall is not a bad thing for the Bruins. The possibility of them landing a strong prospect is still there, so it is understandable that Sweeney is not stressing too much after Boston's unfortunate draft lottery results. However, it still would have been huge for the Bruins if they moved up or even stayed at the number five spot.

Nevertheless, Sweeney will need to consider all of his options with the seventh-overall pick once the draft is here. It will be very interesting to see who the Bruins end up selecting late next month from here.
