Last year, the Boston Bruins invited Danton Heinen and Alex Chiasson to training camp on professional tryout (PTO) agreements. Heinen, of course, not only earned himself a contract but proved to be a critical part of the Bruins' forward group last season. Chiasson, on the other hand, did not receive a deal from Boston.
After not playing in the NHL last season, Chiasson has been given another opportunity to try to change that. The Detroit Red Wings have signed the veteran forward to a PTO.
Chiasson, 33, is a player who the Red Wings know, as he spent the final portion of the 2022-23 season with the Original Six club. Overall, he proved to be a solid secondary scorer in his brief tenure with the club, posting six goals and nine points in 20 games. Now, he will look to earn another contract with them from here.

In 651 career NHL games split between the Dallas Stars, Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, and Red Wings, Chiasson has 120 goals, 233 points, and 675 hits.
