The injury bug is already hitting the Boston Bruins.

Jake DeBrusk and Charlie Coyle were The Hockey News picks for the mid-season Selke Trophy.

The Boston Bruins officially started training camp today (Sept. 18). General manager Don Sweeney spoke with reporters and provided plenty of updates during the session.

Unfortunately, Sweeney revealed that two Bruins defensemen are already dealing with the injury bug and will miss the start of camp - Alec Regula and Jackson Edward.

Sweeney noted that Regula underwent knee surgery during the summer and is still recovering. The 24-year-old defenseman proved to be a solid part of the Providence Bruins' roster last season. In 55 games, the right-shot defender posted four goals, 26 points, and a plus-36 rating.

The Bruins acquired Regula last offseason from the Chicago Blackhawks as a part of the Taylor Hall. The 2018 third-round pick has yet to play a regular-season game for Boston and will look to change that in 2024-25. In 22 career NHL games, he has one goal, 28 hits, and a minus-5 rating.

As for Edward, Sweeney shared that the rugged defenseman recently suffered an upper-body injury and will miss the next seven to ten days.

Edward, 20, was selected by the Bruins with the 200th overall pick of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-2 defenseman has been creating much buzz in Boston's system because of his tenacity and extreme toughness. In 59 games last season with the London Knights of the OHL, he had seven goals, 30 points, 92 penalty minutes, and a plus-43 rating.
